Barrie Carter Up Close

Welcome to Author on the Edge, my personal corner of Fiction on the Edge. This is where I step out from behind the stories and share a glimpse of my own adventures — the places I go, the things I see, and the moments that inspire the worlds I create. Here, you’ll find photos, updates, and snapshots of my life beyond the page. Consider it a behind-the-scenes look at the journey of a storyteller living life on the edge.

In my everyday life, I train apprentices to become the next generation of leaders in underground utility work. In this photo, I’m guiding them through the proper procedures for hydrostatic pipe testing. The setup is a model run made of 1-1/2-inch and 1-1/4-inch Schedule 40 PVC. The pipe may be small, but the test — and the lesson — are very real.

Repairing a blown-out connection — it happens to the best of us as we learn.

“Early morning, quiet water, and a stringer full of catfish. Days like this remind me why I keep going back.”

A good day on the water — fresh catfish, caught, cleaned and eaten!

A summer project I completed years ago. Barbeque Pit: 36″ x 60″ cooking area.

A Quick Note from Me 10/24/2025

Hello fiction fanatics, I wanted to share a little more about myself today. You can read my full bio on the Author page, but let’s be honest—it doesn’t capture everything. I could extend it and make the page a mile long, but who really wants to read that much about one person?

Instead, I created this space to share my routines, my likes and dislikes, and the moments that shape my storytelling. Through photos and short excerpts, I can reveal more than just my writing. But today, I’m skipping the photos and sharing this note instead.

Have you watched any of my original short stories on my YouTube channel or the Edge Tales Short Stories page here on the site? If not, I strongly recommend checking them out. Whether you listen or read, you’ll catch a different side of my writing technique—one that’s layered, visual, and emotionally charged.

This page is where I’ll keep posting glimpses into my life and creative process. Thanks for being here. Always stay curious.
